Our Sky review
Sky Glass merges your favourite Sky services with a high-spec Ultra HD TV. There’s no need for a dish, and no extra cables or set-top boxes cluttering up your living room.
The new generation of Sky Glass TVs - the flagship Sky Glass Gen 2 and the cheaper Sky Glass Air - improve upon the original with both enhanced picture and sound and sleeker, slimmer designs. If you’re looking for a new TV and are a new or existing Sky customer, Sky Glass offers a great value proposition.
What is Sky Glass Gen 2?
Sky Glass Gen 2 is the next generation of Sky’s all-in-one smart TV. It’s your regular Sky package - including any extras like Sky Cinema and Sky Sports - plus other streaming services like Netflix, Prime Video and Disney+, all available in the same place, on a single high-spec screen, with no need for a dish or a set-top box.
What is Sky Glass Air?
Sky Glass Air has all of the same functionality as its big brother, the Gen 2, but in a slimmer, more stripped-back package. Crucially it’s also much cheaper, making the Sky Glass experience even more accessible.
While you’ll still get a crystal-clear 4K display with the Sky Glass Air, the main differences are in the lack of a built-in soundbar and a lighter, more streamlined design.
What’s new with Sky Glass?
So what exactly is the next generation bringing to the table? Compared to Sky’s first version of Glass smart TVs, the new Glass Gen 2 and Glass Air are all about providing an even better viewing experience, with improved picture, sound and design.
Here are some highlights of the updated Sky Glass specs, across both versions:
- A brighter 4K display, with advanced HDR and auto-adjust features.
- Dolby Audio and, in the case of the Gen 2, a built-in Dolby Atmos soundbar - with an additional subwoofer - to provide 360° cinematic sound.
- Sleeker design and several attractive colour options.
Sky Glass Gen 2 Specs
Sky Glass Gen 2 offers a 4K QLED screen with advanced HDR, local dimming zones and ambient light detection, capable of delivering crisp Ultra HD images with vivid colours and deep blacks. This is paired with a built-in Dolby Atmos soundbar, designed to project rich, crystal clear 360° cinematic sound.
The Sky Glass Gen 2 also boasts an auto-adjust feature, which detects what you’re watching and optimises the picture and sound accordingly. All of which adds up to a tailored, immersive viewing experience.
You also have the option of connecting external devices, such as games consoles or Blu-Ray players, through HDMI, USB-C and the new USB-A port, which supports charging and CI+. Sky Glass Gen 2 can even launch your connected devices via the home page or through voice activation, meaning you don’t have to remember which ports you have them plugged into.
Sky Glass Gen 2 is currently available in three sizes - 43-inch, 55-inch and 65-inch - and three colours, meaning it should fit nicely into just about any living room setup.
Sky Glass Air Specs
The Sky Glass Air might not have all the visual bells-and-whistles of its bigger brother but, with Dolby Audio support and a 4K UltraHD Quantum Dot display with HDR and contrast enhancement, it’ll still deliver a vivid, immersive viewing experience.
You’ll also get the same connectivity options that you would with the Gen 2, including HDMI, USB-C and USB-A, and the same size options - 43-inch, 55-inch and 65-inch - giving you flexibility depending on your current setup.
Sky Glass Features
Both the Sky Glass Gen 2 and the Sky Glass Air are powered by Entertainment OS, an intelligent software platform that brings together your Sky channels and other streaming apps - such as Netflix, Prime Video and Disney+ - all in one place. It’s easy to navigate and means no more switching between apps to find your favourite shows.
Entertainment OS also boasts some handy features to further improve your viewing experience. You can use the Playlist feature to ‘bookmark’ and queue up your favourite movies and TV shows - from all of your streaming services.
Want to go straight from an episode of Stranger Things on Netflix, to the latest House of the Dragon on Sky Atlantic? It’s easy with Entertainment OS.
You’ll even get personalised recommendations. These recommendations are unique to each user and vary depending on the time and day, meaning you could be suggested a new crime drama on Thursday evening, or a new kids’ cartoon on Saturday morning.
Entertainment OS also offers a voice control system. Simply say “Hello Sky” to wake it up, and give it a command, or search directly for actors, genres, shows or movies, all without lifting a finger.
Sky Stream vs Sky Glass
A Sky Glass TV - either the Gen 2 or the Air - is an impressive piece of hardware, but what if you’re happy with your current TV and sound setup, and aren’t looking to make a change? Sky Stream includes all of the same great content as Sky Glass - without the TV.
That means you’ll get access to your favourite Sky Channels and streaming services, all in one place. And, as with Sky Glass, Stream runs exclusively on a broadband connection, meaning there’s no need to install a satellite dish.
Sky Cinema on Sky Glass
As with any other base Sky package, you can choose to add Sky Cinema to your Sky Glass Gen 2 or Sky Glass Air subscription for an additional monthly cost.
Sky Cinema has more of the latest movies - from small indie films and cult classics to the biggest blockbusters - than anywhere else. That means access to over 1,000 movies, on demand, many of which are available in UHD - meaning you’ll be able to take full advantage of the Glass’s 4K HDR display and - with the Sky Glass Gen 2 - Dolby Atmos sound.
Check out our Sky Cinema page for the latest deals.
Sky Sports on Sky Glass
You can also add Sky Sports to your Sky Glass Gen 2 or Sky Glass Air subscription, giving you access to 9 dedicated sports channels and round-the-clock coverage - all in stunning Ultra HD.
Sky Sports has more exclusive live sport than anywhere else, across a wide range of favourites including cricket, golf, F1 and boxing. You’ll also get over 500 live football games, including the biggest Premier League games every weekend.
Check out our Sky Sports page for the latest deals.
Sky Glass and Sky Whole Home
Sky Glass doesn’t have to be confined to your living room, either. With the Sky Whole Home pack you can watch any of your Sky channels and streaming services on any other TV, throughout your home.
Simply plug in a Sky Stream Puck and you’ll get access to your full subscription. Or why not go the whole hog and install an additional Sky Glass Gen 2 or Sky Glass Air?
It’s worth noting that you’ll need to pay an additional monthly fee to use the Whole Home service, as well as a one-off payment for each Puck or Glass that you need.
How can I get Sky Glass?
Sky Glass Gen 2 and Sky Glass Air are both available to new and existing Sky customers, allowing you to jump in at any time. They’re perfect if you’re looking to get a new 4K TV but don’t want to pay upfront for an expensive model.
If you’re an existing Sky customer, you can add Sky Glass Gen 2 or Sky Glass Air to your regular monthly subscription.
How much is Sky Glass?
Sky has ensured that the price point of the Sky Glass is accessible for everyone - especially in the case of the cheaper Sky Glass Air. While the as-is prices are very competitive on their own, Sky also allows customers to pay for the TV as part of their monthly deal, just like you would with your phone.
