Sky Cinema new releases: What’s on in September

Hungry - 4th September

Killer animal horror, in which your standard-issue bunch of disposable teens are lost in the Louisiana swamps and menaced by, of all things, a murderous hippo. A hungry, hungry hippo - hence the admittedly brilliant title.

Does what it says on the tin, like a lot of killer animal movies, but sometimes that’s exactly the sort of fun you want.

TOW - 5th September

Drama based on the real-life story of Amanda Ogle, a homeless woman living in Seattle who receives a devastatingly high tow bill and fights to get back the car that was holding her life together.

Stars Rose Byrne (If I Had Legs I’d Kick You) and Dominic Sessa (The Holdovers).

Do Not Enter - 6th September

Horror movie about a group of urban explorers who find themselves trapped in an abandoned hotel and fighting for survival against a supernatural threat.

The History of Sound - 12th September

Period romance starring Paul Mescal (Aftersun) and Josh O’Connor (God’s Own Country). During World War I, two men bond over their shared love of music and grow closer as they travel through New England, recording folk songs.

Rabbit Trap - 13th September

Trippy, folk-horror-infused drama about a pair of musicians who move to the Welsh countryside and manage to make a field recording of a mysterious, never-before-heard sound. Things unravel after that, as you might expect.

Stars Dev Patel (Monkey Man).

The Fix - 18th September

Action thriller in which a group of CIA operatives, disillusioned with the end of the war in Afghanistan, enter Tehran to pull off a daring rescue. Stars Liam Neeson (The Naked Gun) and Zachary Levi (Shazam!).

Hamlet (2025) - 19th September

Not to be confused with the Oscar-winning Hamnet, this is a new adaptation of the Bard’s classic tragedy, set in modern-day London. Riz Ahmed stars as the ill-fated prince, here the heir to a construction empire, haunted by the murder of his father.

Nirvanna the Band the Show the Movie - 20th September

And the award for Most Ridiculous Title goes to… this feature-length installment of the popular cult comedy series, following musical duo Nirvanna the Band as they attempt to book a gig at the Rivoli in Toronto.

The band’s latest hair-brained scheme accidentally sends them back in time to 2008, and hijinx ensues. This has had some serious critical acclaim since its release, not least for its scenes filmed guerilla-style, with no permits and improvised scenes with unsuspecting members of the public.

28 Years Later: The Bone Temple - 25th September

Post-apocalyptic horror sequel in which our young hero Spike (Alfie Williams) finds himself trapped in the murderous, anarchic gang of devil-worshipping cult leader Sir Lord Jimmy Crystal (Jack O’Connell). Expect gnarly violence, philosophising about science vs religion and a truly bonkers, sublime climax featuring Ralph Fiennes in devil makeup.

The Moment - 26th September

Semi-fictionalised music movie following singer Charli XCX as she deals with the pressure of a hit album and a sold-out arena tour.

Barron’s Cove - 27th September

Crime thriller. When a troubled man’s son is found dead, he abducts the child that he suspects is responsible, in an effort to get answers.

Stars Garrett Hedlund (Tron: Legacy), Hamish Linklater (Midnight Mass) and Tramell Tillman (Spider-Man: Brand New Day).
