Sky Atlantic is the only place to watch award-winning TV series from both the UK and US, including the likes of Game of Thrones, The Sopranos and loads more.

The channel is always adding new content to its ever-expanding catalogue, including brand new, soon-to-be-favourite shows and continuations of beloved, well-established series.

Here’s a look at what’s coming to Sky Atlantic this year.

Sweetpea - Season 1

Coming 10th October 2024

Based on the novel of the same name, written by C.J Skuse, Sweetpea stars Ella Purnell, who is having a moment right now off the back of star-making turns in Yellowjackets and the recent, well-received Fallout adaptation.

Described as a ‘deviously twisted coming-of-rage story’, Sweetpea follows Rhiannon Lewis (Purnell), a quiet wallflower harbouring a dark, killer secret. Considering the talent involved and the wonderfully twisted source material, this one has the potential to become a new favourite, and it's already getting a lot of buzz. Definitely one to keep an eye on.

The Franchise - Season 1

Coming 21st October 2024

A razor-sharp satire from acclaimed director Sam Mendes (Skyfall, 1917) and master of the sweary witticism Armando Iannucci (The Thick of It, Veep), this comedy series dives into the ridiculous, ego-driven world of big budget superhero moviemaking. Think In the Loop - but less Iraq War, more Infinity War.

This has some excellent comedy pedigree behind the camera and a brilliant cast in front, including Himesh Patel (Yesterday), Jessica Hynes (Spaced), Lolly Adefope (Ghosts), Richard E. Grant (Loki) and Daniel Bruhl (Captain America: Civil War). Judging by the trailer, this is going to be a hilarious and timely watch.

Dune: Prophecy - Season 1

A spin-off from the successful blockbuster movie, Dune: Prophecy is set around 10,000 years before Paul Atreides first set foot on Arrakis. Focussing on the origins of the Bene Gesserit - the secretive order of witches who manipulate galactic events from the shadows - this looks to be a fascinating dive into the history of the Dune universe, and the beginnings of the prophecy that drives much of the plot of the films.

Starring Emily Watson, Olivia Williams, Mark Strong and others, the show is being positioned as a potential rival to Game of Thrones, with its dense fantasy worldbuilding and political machinations, and judging by the success of the recent Dune: Part Two, sure to be popular.

The Day of the Jackal - Season 1

Coming in 2024

The classic political thriller, based on the 1971 novel by Frederick Forsyth, has been filmed twice before - in 1973, with Edward Fox and Michael Lonsdale, and as The Jackal in 1997, with Bruce Willis and Richard Gere - and now it’s getting a fresh update. Here’s the official synopsis:

“The new series is a bold, contemporary reimagining of the beloved and respected novel and film. While remaining true to the DNA of the original IP, this contemporary drama will delve deeper into the chameleon-like ‘anti-hero’ at the heart of the story, in a high-octane, cinematic, globetrotting 'cat and mouse' thriller, set amidst the turbulent geo-political landscape of our time.”

Ursula Corbero of Netflix’s Money Heist fame, Academy Award-winner Eddie Redmayne and Marvel big-bad Chukwudi Iwuji all star in this updated story that is sure to make for must-see TV.

The Penguin - Season 1

Spinning off from 2022’s The Batman, this limited series follows Colin Farrell’s Oswald Cobb, aka the Penguin, as he climbs through the ranks of Gotham’s criminal underworld following the events of the movie.

Farrell’s performance - and those astonishing prosthetics - were a highlight of The Batman, and it's an exciting prospect to see more of him. Not to mention the promise of delving deeper into the rain-and-neon-soaked world of Gotham City.

This is already garnering rave reviews, with critics especially highlighting the excellent writing and performances - Farrell and Cristin Milioti, as the Penguin's rival Sofia Falcone, in particular. Essential viewing, especially as it will lead directly into The Batman Part II, currently due in 2026.
