Weekly trailer roundup 22/05

The biggest, most exciting new movie and TV trailers this week.

We live in a golden age of entertainment, with great new movies and TV shows being released all the time. There’s so much, in fact, that it can be hard to keep track of what’s coming, and what to get excited about.

With that in mind, we’ve put together a list of the biggest and best trailers released this week. And while it’s a lighter week, there are still some absolute bangers, featuring everything from thieving punks to mutated dinosaurs and electropop hamsters.

Movies

Caught Stealing

In cinemas 29th August

Acclaimed filmmaker Darren Aronofsky - the man behind such weighty prestige dramas as Requiem For a DreamThe Wrestler and Black Swan - returns with something just a little bit different: a punk-infused, action-packed crime caper.

It’s certainly an interesting swerve from the director, and judging by this trailer it’ll be a lot more fun and frothy than his usual fare. Austin Butler (Elvis) plays a bartender who, thanks to his deadbeat friend (Matt Smith, House of the Dragon) is thrust into a war between rival gangs.

There’s some fun action beats here and a great cast, including the likes of Zoe Kravitz (The Batman), Regina King (Watchmen) and Vincent D’Onofiro (Daredevil). Looks like a good time.

Jurassic World: Rebirth

In cinemas 2nd July

Another look at the upcoming Jurassic World movie - the seventh in the franchise and another soft reboot of the series. This time Scarlett Johansson faces off against an island full of scaly beasties, looking to extract DNA from the biggest and meanest specimens for medical purposes.

This new trailer focuses on the new threats that the film will introduce, most notably the monstrous mutant D-Rex, which looks like a cross between a xenomorph and a rancor from Star Wars.

There’s also a few glimpses of a really cool sequence in which our heroes are paddling for their lives to escape a swimming T-Rex. Another dinosaur film is never a bad thing. Unless it’s Jurassic World: Dominion, of course.

Surely Rebirth will be better than that… right?

Zootopia 2

In cinemas 26th November

Finally, our first glimpse of the highly-anticipated follow-up to Disney megahit Zootopia which, believe it or not, came out almost ten years ago!

It’s just a brief teaser, mostly taken up by a trio of adorable electropop hamsters, but all your favourite characters make an appearance. Even the DMV sloth, who basically stole the entire first movie in a handful of brilliant scenes.

No word on the story yet, but if this is anywhere near as good as the first film, it’ll be a must-watch at the cinema.

TV Shows

IT: Welcome to Derry

Season 1 on Sky this Autumn

This Autumn, return to the nightmare-haunted streets of Derry, Maine in this HBO original prequel series to the smash-hit IT movies.

Those films were, of course, based on the classic Stephen King novel, about a bunch of misfits kids (and their adult selves) facing off against an ancient alien evil with a penchant for eating children and wearing the form of a terrifying clown.

This series will act as a sort of prequel, taking place in the 60s - the last time Pennywise the Dancing Clown appeared to wreak havoc on Derry before the 80s-set events of the first film - and drawing from several minor stories and asides mentioned in the source novel.

Most notably, original movie director Andy Muschietti and chameleonic Pennywise actor Bill Skarsgård will both return for the series, and judging by this trailer it promises to be every bit as terrifying as those first two films. Perfect for Halloween!
